| Our History
Bible Fellowship Church was founded by four families with Conservative Baptist backgrounds who shared a vision for reaching the Harbourton-Titusville, New Jersey area with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. After several months meeting in homes, formulating a constitution, incorporating, and searching for denominational affiliation, our church was accepted into the Eastern District of the Evangelical Free Church of America in October, 1982.
David Whitney, a Rutgers University graduate served as interim preacher until he entered Denver Seminary in August, 1982. During this time, we moved Sunday worship services to the Fire Hall in Titusville, New Jersey. Later that year, Jay Button, a graduate of Dallas Seminary, and his wife Kim were called to full time ministry in December, 1982.
The church grew slowly while at the Fire Hall. The atmosphere was not inviting, and we realized 80% of visitors and phone inquiries were from Pennsylvania. Eventually, when the Community Center in Yardley, Pennsylvania became available, the church moved to accommodate the need for more classrooms, better nursery arrangements and the opportunity to reach a different community with Gospel of Christ. The young church grew rapidly as the primary evangelical presence in Yardley.
As the church grew, so did the need for more workers: Deacons and Deaconesses were added to assist the Elders and a youth group was started in 1987. Janice Clark built a strong core group of Junior and Senior High youth and by 1988 it was clear youth pastor was needed. At the same time, a Dallas Seminary student, Cameron Garven, approached Jay seeking a ten week internship. In January 1989, Cam began his internship, and afterwards he was unanimously called as our Associate Pastor of Youth and Christian Education.
Early 1989 saw another steady growth spurt with the greatest growth and potential for ministry occurring in children's ministries. The Community Center proved too small to accommodate the growth and in July 1992, we began holding services and Discipleship Hour at the Grey Nun Academy in Lower Makefield.
1995 was a significant year for two reasons: first, BFC sponsored our first youth missions trip Mexico and it was the year the church purchased 12 acres of property in Yardley. It is important to note God's providence in our acquisition of the property - after many years searching for property, tracking down every solid lead, in the end God brought the property to us when a local family who had previously visited our church approached us to see if we would be interested in purchasing their property. We were reminded that God blesses the faithfulness and patience of His people who wait on Him.
During the next five years the church focused on discipleship and evangelism, pursuing a vision to begin a work in Yardley that could ultimately impact the world for Jesus Christ. In November 2000 we opened the doors to our Great Commission Facility at 725 Oxford Valley Road in Yardley. In May 2003 Pastor Jay Button stepped down after over 20 years of ministry among us. Dr. Jay Quine served as our Teaching Pastor from July 2003-June 2005 when he left to join the faculty of Dallas Theological Seminary. Currently, Bible Fellowship is being richly blessed by the biblical teaching of Pastor Tom Allen, who serves as Interim Teaching Pastor. The Search Committee continues to seek God’s direction in the selection of a permanent Senior/Teaching Pastor.
Looking back, we see God's hand directing us in the past with blessings in our earlier years, and we look to the future with hope and confidence ... not in ourselves, but in the providence and faithfulness of our Heavenly Father. Today, we seek to glorify Him with a "Passion for God and Compassion for People."
